I want my mommy

I am sick as a dog. A really sick dog. I almost never get very ill, maybe once a year so I hope this is it. But I seriously have the world's GREATEST roommates. Amalie brought me tea all afternoon in bed, Mag gave me potent Italian cough drops, and Liz offered me Vla (pron "FLA")--the delicious Dutch version of chocolate pudding. Then Amalie cooked me spaghetti with amazing homemade meaty tomato sauce :) I may be ill, but girl can still eat, a little. The weather here right now is shitty, officially. Rainy and cold. It's a good time to be sick I suppose. It turns out the the flu is the physical effect of emotional pessimism. Hmmm...that's so not me, but I have to admit that sometimes I hide it because I know that I am supposed to be optimistic.
I just called my mommy and talked for a really long time. Sometimes I just need to hear her voice and I feel better on the inside.
But, I could also use a backrub.
P.S. Today was a good day for emails. I received an email from my favorite professor back home, and from the spiritual guru I was working with back in Madison. It was part of the newsletter he sends out and at the end was this quote:
"The Beginning of freedom is the realization that you are not "the
thinker." The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of
consciousness becomes activated. You then begin to realize that there
is a vast realm of intelligence beyond thought, that thought is only a
tiny aspect of that intelligence. You also realize that all things
that truly matter --- beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace ---
arise from beyond the mind. You begin to awaken"

What can I say, the man has a strange way of saying just the right things...
